FITNAH ON FACEBOOK


This is the word format of the interview recorded at a hotel near Masjid Al Haram, Makkah Al Mukarramah.


CHEF ARIF:
Assalamu Alaikum warehmatullahi wa barakatuhu, I am Arif from Makkah, welcoming Brother Nisaar Nadiadwala, a prominent writer on facebook, a regular speaker at ISLAMIC RESEARCH FOUNDATION and a speaker on peace TV as well.
We take up this opportunity to share some motivationg tips for the young muslims who are struggling to learn deen and looking for guidance from their seniors.
Brother has over 10 years of experience in field dawah  and public dawah. He has build a carreer in dawah, and has motivated many young muslims to take up dawah as a full time carreer. Alhumdulilaah, he is a well known guide for hundred of dawah centres acrros India and they look up at him for seeking advice to promote Islam.
Our Today’ topic of discussion would be FITNAH ON FACEBOOK.

WS  Jazak Allah brother arif, as far as the topic goes fitnah on facebook, let me xplain the word fitnah, so that my answers can be easily understood by the audience. The Arabic word fitnah covers many meanings. In the quranic context it means test to see whether you are choosing good or evil. In other context, it also means a trial to test your sabr and taqwa. In one more meaning it also means a type of tribulation from allah,so that people may correct themselves. Plenty of eg are  found in the quran.
The Quran says innama amvaalakum va avlaadukum fitnah. Here it does not mean that your wealth and children are a punishment for you. But, it means that they are a test for you, to see whether you bow to the pressure or you be firm against their unislamic pressure.
The second Eg. Is also from the Quran where Allah(swt) warns thebelievers that if they disobey and rebell against Allah and His messenger then they may fall into Fitnah. So, if we study the case of Bani Israel from Surah Baqarah, we come to know that they rebel against moses(A.S) and met  punishments of various kinds, for Eg they had to wander in the deserts for 40 years and they were also attacked by their enemieswho entered into their homes and destroyed everything. This was a humialtion from Allah. A type if fitnah. In today’s times we see the muslims falling into both the fitnah and the plight of the ummah is not good. The other type of fitnah is the hardship where the person undergoes a crisis without his own fault. But he maintains firmness i=with sabr. You will find this in the case of uthman bin Affan(R.A) and many other sahabs. So we saw some categories of fitnah

So brother Nisaar, in which category of fitnah  the facebook falls into?
First of all do you agree that facebook is a fitnah, as many scholars have warned.
BROTHER NISAAR
Of course, I agree facebook is a fitnah and it is a different fitnah for different people. Whether you are a teacher teaching deen or a daee promoting islam or a lady searching for religious knowledge or a lady searching for a dream boy by browsing profiles or a perverted maniac who just pretends to be good but decieves innocent girls. There are two types of danger in facebook
1 dangers to modesty
2 danger of getting wrong knowledge from wrong people, jeopardising you r akhiraah.
Both of them are equally dangerous for muslims.
As far as modesty goes, young sisters who normally wear hijab and intermingle with opposite sex in their colleges and their social gatherings yet some of them cross the borderline of modesty by intermingling with the opposite sex on facebook becausefacebook offers a tremendous secrecy. Nobody comes to know with whom you are discussing and what you are discussing. I have come across some cases, where some practising muslim females have fallen into an affair with non-muslims who pretend to be interested in Islam, but gradually allured the poor girl who strive innnocently to make him muslim. The discussion then goes in the wrong direction with personal information being shared. And then it raises the emotional index. Thus, exposing the girl to an emotional disaster, destroying her mental peace and ending up with a broken affair.
In other cases, some young boys, who are hard working with good intention of serving and promoting Islam enter into a discussion with non meharm female. And out of curiousity browses her profile and finds it interesting. From talking about islam the subject changes, towards personal discussion. And the young boy who could have done a lot of dawah on facebook by maintaining hijab, is only occupied in thinking about that girl. And If the relation fails to get into marriage the boy feels low and to compensate the loss, he hunts another girl. And this time as well the way is through Islam.
So, these are very dangerous things or hobbies for girls and boys. And I call it A FITNAH OF FACEBOOK where the taqwah and modesty of many boys and girls fails to stand up the situation.

You also mentioned that there is a danger to your creed, can you please elaborate?
BROTHER NISAAR
You see those who are enthusiastic about learning Islam, should try to avoid facebook for that purpose because high profile scholars like Dr. bilal philips, Dr.Farhat Hashmi, Dr.Zakir Naik and many more don’t appear on fb. And many ppl with less knowledge or wrong knowledge are teaching deen on facebook. So those who want to learn deen on internet,  they should go directy on websites of Dr Farhat Hashmi, Dr.Bilal Philips or ISLAM QA. These websites offer extensive knowledge on fiqh, personal issues as well as creed. So if these websites are available easiily for all, then why should on e approach unknown ppl, about who’s back ground of Islamic Knowledge is not known to us. There are some people who are promoting the Aqeedah of Khaarji’s. Some create confusion about authentic hadeeth from Bukhari.Some manufacture their own answers  and lot of ppl take deen from these ppl, ending up with doubts and confusion about those issues which had no second opinion amongst the early generation of muslims. And all of the above corruptors of creed, they approach as our well wishers. This is one of the biggest dangers of Face book.

Don’t keep detailed personal information on your profile. Don’t respond to personal messages ffrom unknown  ppl as well as non mehram. Keep facebook usage for family members only to share personal things. And don’t accept requests from Non-Mehrams .Ignore comments of appreciation from non-mehram.  And request non-mehram not to tag you. In short use facebook in minimum.

AL QURAN
Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do.
Surah Noor - chapter 24: verse 30


O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
                                                                                                                                                               

  
THE HOLY BIBLE
Lowering your gaze similar to the verse in the Quran Surah Noor24:30 is mentioned in the bible in the following verse

Matthew 5:27-28
You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery'
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart
Wearing of opposite sex clothes not allowed
Deuteronomy 22:5

22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

I Timothy 2:9

And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes.

Punishment for a women who does not cover her head

I Corinthians 11:5-6
11:5But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven

HINDU SCRIPTURES
It is mentioned in the Rig Veda Book no. 8 Hymn no. 33 V. no. 19

“When Brahma has made you a woman, you should lower your gaze and should not look up. You should put your feet together and you should not reveal what the garment and the veil conceals.”

So the Rig Veda says that the woman should wear the veil.

They should lower their gaze and should not stare.

It is further mentioned in Rig Veda Book no. 10 Hymn no. 85 V. no.30

“Unlovely is the person is the husband who covers his thighs with the garment of his wife. “

So the Rig Veda says that wearing the clothes of the opposite sex is prohibited.

It is further mentioned in the Mahavir Charitra Act 2 Page 71 that

When Purshuram comes, Rama tells his wife Sita that “He is our elder, please lower your gaze, and put on the veil. “

Rama tells his wife Sita to put on the veil and to lower her gaze.

If you read historical books, the books talking about the Coin Age, the Age of the Gupta and the post Gupta age, there are coins , on which there are pictures of the Indain woman wearing the veils and the veil are going upto their shoulders, some go upto the arms. There are many Indian woman in the villages who wear the veils, some of the woman even cover their faces.
So,if you analyze, even the Hindu Scriptures say that a woman should wear the veil. That the woman should lower their gaze.

LIFT THE VEIL FROM YOUR HEART - AN INSIGHT ON HIJAB ( PART 1)

VEIL
Veil according to the oxford dictionary means a piece of material worn to protect or conceal the face. It also means a piece of cloth forming part of the nun’s head dress. Veil, the headscarf as it is commonly known by the people today has been always a controversial topic. But if you are taking into account the reason for introducing it into our societies, we can surely analyse whether it is a boon or a curse.
Let us now analyse this
It is a natural phenomenon that the human (male and female) is created sexual in nature. The nature of a woman is fundamentally different from man. By his very nature, man is a creature of intense desire. When a man looks at a women, he for sure gets attracted to her. Many men do say that I just look at a women and don’t get attracted to her, “nothing happens to me” is what they boast of. Then he needs a physciatrist. There is always a desire to get attracted to the opposite sex, if you are a normal human and you cannot resist the same. The Hijaab controls this desire and thus not only protects the woman, but also the man. Sexually motivated crimes in the west are on the increase. Rape, molestation and harassment are reaching epidemic levels. Undoubtedly the clothing of a woman has something to do with this. When women walk around with literally nothing on, some men see it as a signal to do as they please. This results in the honour of a woman being scarred for life. Women have always been an object for lust and also have been degraded by the society now and also before. Here is the past history in brief about various civilizations.
1. Babylonian Civilization:The women were degraded and were denied all rights under the Babylonian law. If a man murdered a woman, instead of him being punished, his wife was put to death.
2. Greek Civilization: Greek Civilization is considered the most glorious of all ancient civilizations. Under this very ‘glorious’ system, women were deprived of all rights and were looked down upon.
In Greek mythology, an ‘imaginary woman’ called ‘Pandora’ is the root cause of misfortune of human beings. The Greeks considered women to be subhuman and inferior to men. Though chastity of women was precious, and women were held in high esteem, the Greeks were later overwhelmed by ego and sexual perversions. Prostitution became a regular practice amongst all classes of Greek society.
3. Roman Civilization:When Roman Civilization was at the zenith of its ‘glory’, a man even had the right to take the life of his wife. Prostitution and nudity were common amongst the Romans.
4. Egyptian Civilization:The Egyptian considered women evil and as a sign of a devil.
5. Pre-Islamic Arabia:Before Islam spread in Arabia, the Arabs looked down upon women and very often when a female child was born, she was buried alive. 

CURRENT SCENARIO
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
United States of America is supposed to be one of the most advanced countries of the world. It also has one of the highest rates of rape in any country in the world. According to a FBI report, in the year 1990, every day on an average 1756 cases of rape were committed in U.S.A alone. Later another report said that on an average everyday 1900 cases of rapes are committed in USA. The year was not mentioned. May be it was 1992 or 1993. May be the Americans got ‘bolder’ in the following years.


WESTERN WOMEN LIBERALIZATION

Western talk of women’s liberalization is nothing but a disguised form of exploitation of her body, degradation of her soul, and deprivation of her honour. Western society claims to have ‘uplifted’ women. On the contrary it has actually degraded them to the status of concubines, mistresses and society butterflies who are mere tools in the hands of pleasure seekers and sex marketeers, hidden behind the colourful screen of ‘art’ and ‘culture’.are the educators of the nation.

 WOMEN - A SLAVE OF THE MODERN WORLD
 
Whilst other women are subjected to the pressures and slavery of modern society. In the west, women are expected to conform to the liberal fashions which appear daily. These fashions and expectations are often shaped by men. In this way, women become the slaves of society and man. 
HIJAB
Hijab is the liberator of this slavery. It takes women away from the obedience of man, to the obedience of the Most Perfect, Allaah. This obedience will only bring about good, because we believe that Allaah is the Most Kind and the Most Just. Slavery to the one with such characteristics, is a slavery of reward and contentment. It is not a slavery from which your fellow human (the woman) is exploited and oppressed, just because your desires and lusts run wild.

As a command of Allaah, the Hijaab has united the hearts of so many. Hijaab knows no colour, nationality, race, height or weight. Through obedience to Allaah, it truly unites the women of the world. Thus, this unification has surpassed the ranks and shallowness of all female liberation movements. Christian nuns, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, feminists, lesbians, women boxers and even female gang members, are all known to have become united under Islam and its Hijaab. It is truly a force to be reckoned with. It must be remembered that this obedience to Allaah is a voluntary act from most Muslim women. Many assume that those brought up as Muslims, have always been wearing Hijaab. However, this is not so. Many Muslim women (especially in the UK), who are Muslim by name, often know very little of Islam. When they discover its true meaning, most of them willingly adopt the Hijaab simply to obey their Creator, and not because of any external pressures.

WHAT DOES HIJAB GIVE TO WOMEN
By wearing Hijaab, a woman shields herself from the rampant desires of man. By his very nature, man is a creature of intense desire. The Muslim woman does not have this problem. She knows that when she walks on the streets, the men will not look at her. Why? Because there is nothing for them to look at!! She feels like a princess who is shielded from the savages of her domain. Peace and security is felt beneath the veil. The woman of Hijaab does not have to reveal her body in order to gain respect. She does not have to have her ‘bits’ hanging out so that men can drool over her. If a man desires her, then it has to be for her religion and intellect. The Hijaab gives him no other choice. She is a woman who is truly shielded from the nature of man.
-Nature-
 
The nature of a woman is fundamentally different from man. Women are more timid, gentle and caring then men. This is the reason why they have been chosen (by Allaah) to be the perfect rearers of children. The Hijaab reinforces this nature of the woman. We praise Allaah that he has ordered this Hijaab, for the world that we live in seeks to change our very nature as human beings. Men try to be women and women try to be men. People are being led into confusion by the political correctness which is so popular in our societies. 

Many women have jumped onto the bandwagon of feminism and lesbianism, shouting how evil and oppressive men are. But when one looks at these sad creatures, their delusion is clear. While claiming to hate men, their attire suggests otherwise. Short hair, bomber jackets and steel toecapped boots, are the vogue for these women. Their hatred for men is so much, that their very appearance resembles the enemy!! Some of these women have even gone to the extreme of growing masses of facial hair. The hideous site of these bearded ladies, is enough to put anyone off their dinner!!! Such depravity is far from natural. The Hijab on the other hand, enables the woman to stay as a woman. Rather then being a monstrosity, a woman in Hijab is like an oyster with a beautiful pearl inside it. Her femininity has stayed feminine, without being altered into masculinity. There is no doubt about it, this is a TRUE WOMAN.
-Honour-
 
Contrary to the tales of the media, the Hijab provides an honour for the woman like no other garment does. For many women, a dress designed by Versace or Armani is all the honour they need. But the Hijaab carries far more honour then these worthless clothes. Whilst the dresses of the catwalks are designed by mere mortals, the Hijaab comes from the one who is immortal, Allaah. Through it a woman is held with the utmost respect. True Muslim men are obliged to keep their Muslim sisters away from the corruption of this world. Thus a Muslim will not allow for someone to ogle his wife, chat her up or harass her. The honour of a Muslim woman demands that this does not happen. How contrary this is to life in the west. Men in the west feel no obligation to protect women from the harms of society. This is why a man will allow his wife to be a stripper, call-girl and even a prostitute. Honour knows no place in the west. This honour will only be achieved from Islam and its Hijab.
 
The honour of a Muslim woman is so high, that we believe that the state of a society is dependent upon its women. If the women are corrupt and immoral, then the society will be corrupt and immoral. If the women are righteous and god-fearing, then the society will be righteous and god-fearing. Women are the educators of the nation. But if they have no honour and have been corrupted, then society will be void of education and steeped in ignorance. This is the predicament of a society which rejects Hijab. This is the predicament of all Western societies, which stubbornly cling onto their depressing ways of life.

EARTHQUAKE - NATURAL DISASTER OR ALLAH’S WRATH



Ever since man was created, the planet earth has witnessed many natural disasters which we have witnessed and which we come to know through records maintained by mankind.
Let us today analyse:

 What is an earthquake?
 What does Quran and Hadeeth say about it?
 What Scientists and Researchers have to say about it?
 How can we prevent it?
 And most importantly is it a Natural Disaster or Allah’s Wrath?


WHAT IS AN EARTHQUAKE?

An earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor or temblor) is the result of a sudden release of energy in the earth's crust (lithosphere) that creates seismic movements.
During this movement of lithospheric plates continent-size slabs of the earth's lithosphere are shifted and intense forces overcome the friction between them. However, if the plates are "locked together", forces build-up and eventually must give way, with the plates lurching into new position and creating an earthquake.
As  per oxford dictionary, it means violent movement of part of the earth’s crust.


WHAT DOES QURAN SAY ABOUT IT?

Quran emphasizes the fact that nothing can happen in this whole of universe, but with the will and wisdom of The Creator, The Most High, The Irresistible – Allah. And to Him we shall all return.
Allah narrates the story of the people of the past in the Glorious Quran in Surah Nahl where the people were told to worship Allah and to believe in what is revealed to them by the Almighty. They made a mockery by saying that the revelations are just Stories of the ancients.


Your god is one God. But those who do not believe in the Hereafter – their hearts are disapproving, and they are arrogant.
Assuredly, Allah knows what they conceal and what they declare. Indeed, He does not like the arrogant.



And when it is said to them, "What has your Lord sent down?" They say, "Legends of the former peoples,"



That they may bear their own burdens in full on the Day of Resurrection and some of the burdens of those whom they misguide without knowledge. Unquestionably, evil is that which they bear.
Those before them had already plotted, but Allah came at their building from the foundations, so the roof fell upon them from above them, and the punishment came to them from where they did not perceive.
(Surah Nahl): 22-26

Similarly, Allah sent the furious violent wind upon the people of `Aad, so that they were seen lying overthrown and destroyed, as if they were hollow trunks of palm-trees.
Allah sent the awful cry upon the people of Thamud until it cut their hearts inside their bodies, and they all fell dead without exception.
Allah lifted the villages of the people of Loot till the angels heard barking of their dogs, then turned them upside down, and then rained upon them a rain of stones.
These are all instances from the Holy Quran where Allah has punished the wrongdoers in different ways for their evil deeds. And the punishment of the hereafter will be much more intense than these is what Allah says in the following verse.
 "And the torment of the hereafter is far more severe and more lasting." (Surah Taha):127
The following verses from the Quran proves that all natural calamities occurring is the result of the evil and wrongdoings happening upon the earth.
"Whatever misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned." 
(Surah Ash- Shura ):30
 "Evil and mischief have appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of men have earned, that Allah may make them taste a part of that which they have done, in order that they may return (by repenting to Allah)."
(Surah Rum): 41
See they not that they are tried every year once or twice? Yet they turn not in repentance, and they take no heed. 
(Surah Taubah): 126
Present scenario’s earthquake and the related calamities (Tsunami, Volcanoes and Flood etc) is a heavy warning by Allah(swt) to Mankind.
"And We sent not the signs except to warn, and to make them afraid (of destruction)." 
(Surah Isra): 59

Mankind is thinking that there will no questioning of its deeds, and the death in this life is an end. But no, certainly it is not. The following verses are sufficient proof that this world is not an end, but a new beginning, the full compensation of your deeds, the hereafter, which is yet to come and the knowledge of which is with Allah alone.
Indeed, to Us is their return.
Then indeed, upon Us is their account.
(Surah Ghashiyah) : 25-26



Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained.
(Surah Mudaththir) : 38

Quran also mentions the earthquake of the Hour


"O mankind! Fear your Lord and be dutiful to Him! Verily, the earthquake of the Hour (of Judgment) is a terrible thing. 
The Day you see it, every nursing mother will forget her nursling, and every pregnant one will drop her load, and you shall see mankind as in a drunken state, yet they will not be drunken, but severe will be the Torment of Allah."
(Surah Hajj): 1-2
In the same context, the Glorious Qur'an also reads:
"When the earth is shaken with its (final) earthquake. 
And when the earth throws out its burdens. 
And man will say: "What is the matter with it?" 
That Day it will declare its information (about all that happened over it of good or evil).
 Because your Lord will inspire it.
That Day mankind will proceed in scattered groups that they may be shown their deeds.
So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant) shall see it. 
And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant) shall see it."
(Surah Zalzalah):1-8
Allah (swt) warns His servants with the earthquake to learn a lesson and be admonished, and to be ready and prepare themselves for the Day of sorting out, the day of the great earthquake, that will shake all of the earth. Which will be the greatest of all the quakes that have taken place upon the face of the earth.

From the authentic hadeeth of bukhari we come to know that Earthquakes will become very frequent before The Hour will come.
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "The Hour (Last Day) will not be established until (religious) knowledge will be taken away (by the death of religious learned men), earthquakes will be very frequent, time will pass quickly, afflictions will appear, murders will increase and money will overflow amongst you." 
Sahih Bukhari :(Book #17, Hadith #146).


What Scientists and Researchers have to say about it?

The Scientists and Researchers say that the primary cause of earthquakes is the movement of masses of earth along fault lines. Fault lines can occur anywhere. Nevertheless, they are normally created from pressure generated by the movement of lithosphere plates on the mantle of the earth. These plates were first theorized by a German meteorologist and astronomer named Alfred Lothar Wegener (1880-1930). At the time he was ridiculed for his ideas, but later they were substantiated by further research. Even so, the theory of plate tectonics only became widely accepted within the last half of the 1900s.
There is constant pressure on lithosphere plates to move. Yet the friction of land masses being pushed together only allows movement to occur in fits and starts. So when movement finally comes as a result of all this lithosphere pushing, we often feel it, and we call it an earthquake.
Faults that occur close the surface of a plate usually generate the most significant quakes. Earthquakes seldom cause the earth to actually crack open along a fault line. 

The earth as a planet is annually subjected to about one million earthquakes (with an average of about 2738 earthquakes per day). Most of these earthquakes are gentle to moderate ones that cannot be felt by man, but are recorded by seismographs.
A hundred to hundred and fifty of these earthquakes are moderate to destructive in populated areas, (20) twenty of which are of total destructive capacity, and every 5-10 years comes one that reaches or exceeds the peak of mass destruction, although this average has been lately accelerated.
Most earthquakes occur in certain belts or earthquakes-prone zones. These are concentrated where two tectonic plates collide, diverge or slip past each other. However, not a single spot on the Earth's surface can be excluded from the possibility of being subjected to earthquakes. The type of plate contact can determine both the magnitude intensity and depth of the earthquake.


How can we predict and prevent it?

Despite the fact that earth scientists understand the mechanism by which earthquakes can take place, they are losing faith in their ability to predict such disasters.
Earthquakes - like many other destruction - are part and parcel of the Divine plan for punishing the evil - doers trying the pious ones, and teaching the saved individuals the lesson of their lives. Unless taken in this context, human beings will never learn from their own mistakes or even from the mistakes of others. Understanding the mechanisms by which earthquakes take place and measuring both their intensities and magnitudes cannot help in their prediction and prevention. The only way of avoiding this and other disasters is heeding the Creator and living according to His guidance.


Is it a Natural Disaster or  Is it Allah’s Wrath?

The record of earthquakes proves the sudden, non–linear nature of these disasters that took the lives of millions of individuals throughout history, injured several other millions, made billions of people homeless and caused material losses of endless values. These tragedies cannot be the work of the mechanical processes of the earth, but need a designer, and the designer is the Creator Himself. And they must have a purpose, and the purpose is punishment for the transgressors and the aggressors, trial for the pious and honest ones that are caught in the middle and a reminder for the survivors.
If you analyse the verses mentioned from the Glorious Quran above and the explanations from the above contents, we can clearly understand that Earthquake is Allah’s wrath. The wrongdoings prevalent in our world is enormous ranging from Alcohol, Prostitution, Gambling, Idol worship, Fortune Telling, Fire worship and many more, which results in such occurrences.
May Allah save us from these trials and tribulations and keep us among the pious.
May Allah guide us with his Mercy and grant us from his bounties.
May Allah increase in all of us knowledge and make us amongst those who strive in his way.
